This recipe is not only for drinking. It can also be used as a base to make frosting for espresso cupcakes and other decadent desserts! If this coffee is whipped properly it will hold its peaks and sweetness for hours.

Smooth, creamy, and frothy. The perfect drink that is easy to make cold or hot.

Frothy Beginnings

A whipped coffee is a frothy latte that can be adjusted to taste. Those made at home can be just as good as any found in your local coffee shop.

Making an authentic Dalgona coffee means you have to find some Korean honeycomb coffee, the original namesake of the drink. Obviously, this isn’t always an option, so there must be substitutions when this ingredient is missing.

Any whipped coffee made without Korean honeycomb coffee isn’t an authentic Dalgona coffee, but it is still just as delicious! and is easy to make at home.

Three Ingredients plus Water

Three Ingredients plus Water

Whipped coffee is not a complicated drink. This frothy treat is easy to make by simply whisking 3 ingredients together. The ingredients are three basic kitchen staples that are added to milk.  Here is what you need to get your whipped coffee drink underway.

  • 2 tbsp of instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp of sugar (sweetener if preferred but be mindful that the measurement may differ for the same taste)
  • 2 tbsp of hot water
  • ¾ cups of milk that can be hot or iced

Put coffee, sugar, and hot water together and whisk briskly until the mixture is creamy in texture. It should look something like whipped cream. It can then be put over milk, an espresso drink, or even used as a topping for desserts and snacks!

Pick a flavor that you will enjoy if you want to change the taste of your whipped coffee. 3 popular ingredient additions are cocoa powder, vanilla extract, or caramel sauce.

Nevertheless don’t be afraid to experiment with something different for a unique flavor!

Have your ingredients ready to go for both the whipped coffee and their variations. This will save you have to go on a search mid-recipe. Have the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water set also.

The water should be boiled in a saucepan or kettle. If you are going to add flavor or spice, then pick that as well and have it ready to add.

Mix together the ingredients of the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water in a large-sized bowl. If you have an electric mixer it’s easier to use versus whisking by hand. If you are going to whisk it by hand it will take longer and require more effort, but the outcome is equal to the electric mixer.

Whisk the mixture until it gets frothy. This should take about 5 minutes if you are using an electric mixer. It will look not only frothy but have the color of light coffee, similar to the color of coffee with milk or cream in it or crema.

When the whipped coffee is done it should end up looking like whipped cream, and it should be thick enough to have soft peaks.

Different Ways to Enjoy Whipped Coffee

Put in the flavoring that you have chosen. Whipped coffee can either be plain according to the original recipe or varied with flavor. If adding flavor, use 1 tbsp of cocoa powder, ½ tsp for vanilla extract, or 1 tsp of caramel sauce.

Any flavor addition should be put into the mixture after the coffee has already formed soft peaks and whisked for at least 15 additional seconds. You don’t want to lose the frothy look or feel.

Put the mixer down and finish up by folding the flavoring in with a spatula. This will make sure that the flavor is folded thoroughly into the coffee mixture without affecting its density.

Be aware that cocoa may take more time to fold in since it has to dissolve. Make sure you do the folding gently, so the product doesn’t go flat.

The final step is to put the whipped coffee on either hot or iced milk. Whether it is heated on the stove or poured over ice cubes both temperatures of milk will taste great.

If you are lactose intolerant or don’t use dairy milk, then almond or oat milk can be used as well. Scoop the whipped coffee onto the milk and then decide whether extra toppings are in order.

Some caramel drizzle, chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or coconut can all be used to finish off the whipped coffee.
