You can grind coffee beans in a Nutribullet

Grinding coffee in a Nutribullet is possible if you do it correctly. Depending on your machine, you must remove the typical extractor blades and replace them with milling blades.

The coffee beans are less likely to get stuck with the milling blade since it only has two prongs instead of four. The blades are also thinner, which helps prevent the beans from becoming stuck as well.

Beyond that, the process is like grinding up anything else for a Nutribullet recipe. Fill up the Nutribullet to somewhere below the “max” line, and then grind away.

Be sure to pulse the machine a few times in the end to get an even grind.

Continue grinding until the beans reach the correct consistency. The consistency depends mainly on your plans for the beans.

Can You Grind Coffee Beans In A Nutribullet? A Consistency Guide

Ground coffee
Grind the beans longer to produce finer grind

You can achieve most consistencies with a Nutribullet. For finer grinds, simply grind the beans for longer. The consistency to aim for depends on how you’re going to brew the beans.

Coarse Grind

If you’re making use of a French Press, your grinds should be similar to sea salt. They should be quite coarse.

To achieve this, you’ll only need to pulse your Nutribullet two or three times. It is very easy to over-grind when you’re aiming for a coarse grind.

Medium Grind

For drip coffee makers and siphon brewers, a medium grind is best. When you purchase most types of coffee, this is probably what you’re getting. They assume that you’re going to use it in a drip coffee pot.

Aim for the beans to be about the size of beach sand. This process should only take about five pulses or slow.

Fine Grind

You’ll typically only need fine beans when you’re making espresso. You’ll need to use a Nutribullet for a minute or two to achieve this consistency. Be sure to give the cup a little shake in between pulses, or you’ll end up with different grinds at different levels of the cup.

You can usually find fine grinds in stores as well, though they are typically less common. Achieving an overall fine grind can be difficult. The beans at the bottom tend to get ground more than those at the top.

Extra-Fine Grind

Turkish coffee requires extra fine grind

You’ll need this grind for Turkish coffee, which is made in an ibrik or cezve. This grind looks and feels like flour or powdered sugar, and it’s basically powdered coffee beans.

You’ll need to run the Nutribullet for a while to achieve this consistency. Plan on pulsing it for anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. Be sure to shake the cup regularly to get the bigger chunks towards the bottom.

Luckily, you can’t really over grind coffee this fine.

Which Nutribullets Are Best For Grinding Coffee?

Initially, you could only buy one type of Nutribullet. However, the company offers more models. Not all are ideal for grinding coffee beans, though.

Nutribullet 600

This model was the original Nutribullet. It comes with a 24-ounce cup and a 600-watt motor. Both of these specs are fine for grinding coffee.

However, the model only comes with the extractor blade – which is not the one you need for grinding. You’ll need to purchase a milling blade separately and use that.

Otherwise, you could potentially burn up the motor as beans get stuck between the thicker blades.

Nutribullet Pro 900

As the name suggests, this unit is just a bit more powerful than the standard one. It has a 900-watt motor.

The cup is also a bit larger at 32 ounces.

Besides the larger size, it will work similarly for grinding coffee beans. You don’t necessarily need the stronger motor, though it can be helpful in some situations.

You’ll need to attach the milling blade with this model as well, which is sold separately.

Nutribullet Pro Plus 1200

Again, this model is like previous ones, but it’s stronger. The motor is a bit more robust at 1200 watts, while the cup is the same size as 32 ounces.

You’ll also need to use a milling blade with this model, even though it’s stronger. The milling blade is sold separately, so you’ll need to make another purchase.
